Adelaide’s Red Buses

Forty brand new generation CB80 Custom buses hit the road in Adelaide.

“The 40 new CB80 buses, many with a new red colour scheme were unveiled today and will be rolled out over the next month,” SA Transport Minister Patrick Conlon announced at the bus launch in July. “These buses are the next step in the State Government’s unprecedented investment of more than $2 billion in our public transport system, “This significant investment has already delivered 60 extra new buses over the past 3 financial years, which has enabled us to offer hundreds of extra services.”

The new CB80 buses are the result of Custom’s 57 years of manufacturing and operational experience in Australia and are designed for maximum seating capacity and passenger comfort. They also feature a new driver’s area that has been 3D modelled and engineered to provide arguably the best driver environment available on the market today.

Bus Driver Security

Drivers Safety Screen

A recent spate of shocking attacks on bus drivers in Sydney including an assault with a machete has prompted demands for increased protection for drivers.

In March this year, there were five assaults, including a machete attack on bus drivers, with another attack as recently as 17th July, resulting in the driver being badly injured.

In response to these attacks Custom Care has been installing metal full-length security screens which enclose the driver for bus operators. The grills have been designed in discussions with drivers and the transport union to provide a safer working environment.
