NTC presents the important argument that a good and reliable transport system benefits the nation’s economy and the prosperity of its citizens, by allowing the efficient movement of people and goods around cities and urban areas.
The paper states that, ‘the current Australian transport system, is a result of a highly urbanised society but with low densities resulting in a dependency on cars and road infrastructure investment. In the past the transport system has been able to cope with this situation – however a range of challenges such as congestion, increased population, cost of oil and climate change is placing pressure on the current system’.
